Chat with PDF lets you ask questions about a document in plain language and get answers grounded in its actual content, with the page number cited so you can verify it. Instead of scanning a long report or contract for the section you need, just ask.

Unlike most "chat with your document" tools, nothing is uploaded to a server. The AI model — an open-weight language model plus a small embedding model — downloads once to your browser and answers run entirely on your device using WebGPU. Your PDF, your questions, and the model's answers never leave your browser.

This requires a WebGPU-capable desktop browser (the latest Chrome or Edge). Mobile WebGPU support is still too inconsistent, so this tool is built desktop-first for now.

1. Check compatibility — The page checks for WebGPU support before downloading anything, and tells you clearly if your browser can't run it.
2. Pick a model — Choose the balanced model for more capable answers, or the lighter model for a smaller download and faster responses.
3. One-time download — The model downloads with a visible progress bar, then is cached in your browser so future visits skip the download.
4. Upload and index — Upload your PDF; it's split into overlapping chunks and embedded locally so relevant passages can be found for any question.
5. Ask questions — Type a question and get a streamed, page-cited answer drawn only from your document's content.
